Re:FFC Sat, 2/6 Check-in - 2010/02/06 14:17
I've been hustling along the last few days, and got in two great runs (yesterday and today). Yesterday afternoon, I experimented with Galloway's run/walk approach for a 3-mile loop. I ran 3 minutes, then walked for 1 minute. Gotta say, I felt so wonderful afterward! I was able to run comfortably hard, and knowing there was rest in sight made that easier. Even better, however, was that my legs felt OK enough for this morning's long run (11 miles) which was quite hilly. I've also decided I'll test drive the Galloway formula for next weekend's Austin Half.
I'll do some stretching and foam rolling tonight, and yes, I'll get to posting my action plan for my goals later on.
Irene - Awesome job on the 10K!!! As long as you beat last year's time, it's all good. ~Joyce~

Hi Ladies!
Sorry, I have not been around since last week but I have been busy. I was supposed to get my airport ID for MCO on Wednesday but my SS Card and drivers license the names don't match so I had to get the name changed on my SS Card so that is going to take a good week to 10 days to get fixed.
Thursday: I did Margaret Richard High Voltage a 60min TB workout with out aerobics that has a good punch to it. I like doing this workout because It has a lot of good exercises that really work tour entire body, plus I can do the entire workout barefoot. Plus another reason why I like doing this workout is one of the background exercisers Joe Hodges is very cute!!
Friday it was another Margaret Richard videos as I did her Triple Threat Vol 2 a full 60min of just working the lower body!! This is one of the new MR videos I bought a few months ago and I was overall pleased with it. However the last few min I did not care for to much.
Saturday was a rest day
Today I was going to take today off but I decided to put on my favorite leotard and do Firm Total Body Shaping Mix. A full strenuous 67min of aerobics, weights and lower body work that kick butt honey!! For some resion a few times in the workout I got a bit lite headed and just wore out and that was odd because I kept drinking water thur the workout, but I kept going on and was very proud of myself for going on and not giving up!
On another note you ladies know how I have a thing for the man posing with Denise Austin. I sent an email to her web page asking who he was. It turns out his name is Donald O'Maley and he was a boxer. It turns out his people contacted Denise because they wanted to get his abs in shape for his fights. He boxed from 1997 to 2001 and than decided to hang up his gloves.
Irene: FABULOUS job on the 10K honey!!!
Joyce: GREAT JOB on getting two good runs in!
Rene': Are you still alive?? How much snow did you get?? How is yoga going? I could never get into yoga to much. When I lived in New Hampshire I did take Pilate's with a group of women every Monday and it was our girls day out!!
Maggie: I thought I was disciplined but you put all of us ladies to shame!!
Well, I'm going to try to stay up and watch the Shuttle go off tonight. I have never had the chance to sea night launch and this is the last one so hopefully tonight is a go!! At 4:30a this morning the decided to scrub!
Hugs,
Lady G

Geoff - I'm here! Snow everywhere and another 6 inches expected starting tonight. We took the kids to a local snow tube/ski park and had a ball! It was cold and crowded, but the kids had fun! We just tubed. Non of us know how to ski, but I would love to try it someday! Good job on the workout and pushing through! Hope you are okay! What a shame about your SS card. UGH!
Joyce - glad to hear you are truckin' along!Did you you do the 3 minute run 1 minute walk for your 11 mile? That's similar to how I trained for my first race. Made the mileage go by so much quicker.
Irene - how are you feeling? I can't wait until the day I can say a 9:30mm pace is easy! And you find the large strainers easy to use? I thought about that, but don't have one! I got my pressure canner on Friday and can't wait to start canning. I'm going to practice on store bought tomatoes and veggies, but can't wait until my garden is in full bloom to get some great veggies. I also think I'm going to grow cucumbers also! I'm also bought the Ball's Blue Book of Canning! Can't wait to see the recipes!
Today I will do a LBWO. I'm tired from staying up watching the Superbowl and snow tubbing. My house is also a wreck, BUT..................I have to brag!
Today's weight............149.8!............. I haven't been below 150 in over a year! I know I wasn't going to try and lose weight, but this is exciting to me. Also, my measurements have gone down greatly! I'm down 1 full inch in my waist, hips, and thighs!

Re:FFC Mon, 2/8 Check-in - 2010/02/08 12:13
Morning all! Made it to yoga today - the room was perfect and I got a great sweat and only had to sit out a couple of postures. I'm slowly rebuilding the strength in my feet that I lost when I took my yoga hiatus.
Had a naughty weekend eating-wise. Too much salt so I was feeling a bit bloated. Saturday was a beautiful day, so we went to the local nursery, picked up a few heirloom tomato plants, herbs, peppers, and seeds. I started raking out and weeding a couple of the flower beds. I think we'll start building some raised beds this next weekend.
Rene - great job on the stats! You've totally earned bragging rights! I'm looking forward to breaking through the 170 mark - hopefully this week. Sorry dinner didn't go well, but at least it's over with and hopefully you won't have to have another one for a good while!
Lady G - were you able to stay up for the shuttle launch? From what I heard on the news it was a spectacular sight!

Re:FFC Mon, 2/8 Check-in - 2010/02/08 13:58RU Bryan threw in just about everything but the kitchen sink today. I did just a little bit of everything, including pylo, barbell squats, dumbbells, stability ball, bousu exercises, lunge and squat matrix, burpees, throwing stuff, etc., but in small doses. I probably did about 15 different exercises, two sets of each. Coughed between sets, and had to take breathers between the burpees, but I got done.
I forgot to mention that I went to see my doctor on Friday afternoon. He determined that I have a sinus infection, that my left lung is congested, and I really need antibiotics and rest. I mentioned about the 10K run, and he seemed to know that I wasn't going to listen to a "stay at home and don't run" answer. He said to back off and use the 10k as a training run, and that's pretty much what I did. I must also mention that I saw my actual doctor and not an intern. I REALLY like my doctor. He also appeared to be somewhat athletic, and perhaps runs or bikes - as he seemed the type, so maybe that's why he gave me the OK to run, as long as I rested for the remainder of the weekend, and I did. Antibiotics can be a wonderful thing. I'm feeling less fatigued now.
Other stuff: Our washing machine motor went out on us. That's what happens when a quarter get's lodged in the pump, strips the main gear, and makes the motor run hard. Don't ask. My husband made the executive decision that it was going to be a waste to put more money into the washing machine to fix it, and cost as much as a new one when it's all said and done. He bought a new washing machine while I was at home in bed. He came home with it and said, "aren't you happy?" I said "No, this isn't 1950-something... I'm glad we have a machine, but I'd be really happy if you did the laundry." I don't know what money tree we're going to pick from to pay for this machine right now, but I'm sure we'll find a way, somewhere. He did purchase the floor model and the sales guy marked it down. Ah well.
Ang - Your yoga class sounds quite glorious, especially the part about getting a great sweat. You must feel great afterward.
Rene' - Tubing is soooo much fun! Nice job on the weight bench-mark! It sounds like the vegetarian lifestyle is working for you. Thanks for asking about me. I'm feeling better and not as tired. I just wish I'd stop coughing. As for the large strainers, they work OK as a sifter, you just tap the edge with your hand. I had a cheap-o strainer that the kids used for something they were experimenting with (years ago) and it didn't work right after that. I notice on all of those Food Network shows that nobody uses sifters, just the strainers as sifters. I love my gadgets, though, and I'll eventually get a new sifter if I see one I like. Keep us posted about the canning and your new pressure canner. I'm also hoping to get a garden going this year. I hope they'll stop water rationing since we've had ridiculous rain this winter.
Geoff - I hope the SS card comes through quickly! It sounds like you've been really busy, and good busy! Did you find out what Donald O'Maley is doing now? Pretty sweet that they gave you the info! Nice job on the workouts! How was the shuttle launch? Thanks for the props.
Joyce - I'm glad to hear you're finding Galloway's approach good for you. When my husband decided he wanted to run it's the same program I had him do. I'll be interested in knowing how you do with this approach for the half marathon. Oh, and thanks... I knew I wasn't going to shatter any records going into the race, and I was happy to come out ahead of last year. It was so windy!
PEACE ~Irene

Hi Ladies,
Another pop in! I just finished doing Karen Voight Firm Arms & Abs. I wanted to do another total body aerobics video today but I'm just too tired from staying up last night so I wanted to do an upper body workout that was a challenge but not going to kill me so I figured KV would be a good choice. I used all of my weights and now my UB is feeling it. Also got some ab work in and I'll do another set tonight.
Rene' Glad to see your still alive! I'm heading up to NH on Friday night so I'm sure I'll see some snow!! Did the kids have off today? I saw on the TV alot of schools in the mid atlantic were closed? I have never done skiing before too! When I worked in MHT we HATED getting skis when passengers would fly out or in!! They were a pain to load!!
Irene; The Shuttle Launch was wort staying up for!! It was a bit chilly on the beach but it was amazing! The whole sky lit up and it looked like a sun rise! Even w the SRB's separated you could still see the shuttle go off. Denise's people said after Donald quit boxing he got into yoga, an stillteaches some boxing. I would LOVE to take a class with him! HeHe!!
Hope you ladies liked my video list.
Hugs,
Lady G

FFC Tues, 2/9 Check-in - 2010/02/09 11:18
I finally sat down and thought out what I'm going to do to achieve this month's goals, and beyond. I've also had to do some revisions to it.
As for the Galloway training program, I had to make revisions to it because, as of today, I only have 12 weeks left until the NJ Marathon in May. So a major tweaking of it was in order, unfortunately. My revised plan excludes the 27-28-mile long run, and I'll be increasing mileage every other week.
Because of that, I realized 2 things:
1. I have to eat at maintenance levels, so no weight loss, even 2 lbs. worth of it, will happen.
2. My strength training routine will need to center more on high-rep/lower weight for increased endurance. Not all of these workouts will be high-rep, but I need to step it up here so that my slow-twitch muscles can be better conditioned for my May affair.
Still working on the "maintaining positivity" end of things. I actually think being realistic about training and my overall life situation is really helping me.
Geoff - What an extensive collection you have! Wowza. And I am so jealous you got to see a shuttle launch. That's one thing I should've done while I still lived in FL.
Irene - Sucks that your washing machine gave out (but I'd come down quite hard on whoever didn't clear out their pockets, ahem!). The $$$ for it will materialize, somewhere.... And the Galloway method is the only hope I have for finishing my first marathon. I haven't run beyond 13 miles since December, and my legs are going to take a pounding in the next few months. Thing is, at least the marathon is giving me a push to incr. mileage, because I wouldn't otherwise.
Ang - When you mentioned possibly working on your flower beds this weekend, you reminded me that spring is coming... though not soon enough. Glad you're getting into the yoga groove again. I'll have to go on the hunt for classes in my area.
Rene - WTG on the lbs. lost! I think you're approaching the vegetarian diet very smartly, and it's paying off. I didn't use the run/walk method for my 11 miler on Saturday, since I was w/a running partner. However, I did cave into a walk break towards the finish, where it seemed that last hill wouldn't end. I just didn't feel like running through that, at all. ~Joyce~

Re:FFC Tues, 2/9 Check-in - 2010/02/09 15:28
Snow Day! We have about 4 inches on top of the 6 we got 2 days ago. Nothing like the east coast, so I'm not complaining. They were predicting 8, but we are now looking at 40+ mph winds and the snow is powdery so it will drift easily. That's another issue and could possibly delay or cancel school again tomorrow.
I did get in my 2 mile easy run today and I'm super sore from yesterday's LBWO. I'm so ready to get outside, but with winter being stubborn, I'm sure I won't be able to run outside for a good while. I've also decided that if my sister commits to the 3/20 5K that I will walk it with her. I had someone with me during my first 5k, why should I not hang with her? I don't mind. I do them for fun anyway! If she decides not to do it, then of course I will run!
Unfortunately today the sweet tooth has been all out! I found some chocolate chips buried in the back of the pantry. Bad, bad, bad! Oh well, it was just a handful and it's over! I've been sewing most of the day while the kiddos play with a friend.
I've read all the posts, but I need to get going. I will post more tomorrow! Rene'

Hi Ladies,
Another workout report pop in! I just finished doing Firm Lower Body Sculpting. I LOVE this tape but I don't like like that it has no ab segment so I also did a segment from Denise Austin's 6 Min. Wast Trimmer workout. I Forget the last time I did this workout, but it is an old favorite even with out the abs! This is actually one of the first Firms I got so it has a special place in my heart! I used my usually 3lb ankle weights but I also added 1lb toe weights and for some of the exercises I added a 2.5lb weight.
Rene' I bet the treadmill was worth the investment now!!! You guys cant catch a break!!!
Joyce: It was well worth staying up to see the shuttle launch!
Have to start dinner!!
Hugs,
Geoff / Lady G
